background: Ly75 is expressed in spleen, thymus, colon and peripheral blood lymphocytes and causes reduced proliferation of B-lymphocytes as well as acting as an endocytic receptor to direct captured antigens from the extracellular space to a specialized antigen-processing compartment. Ly75 is also detected in myeloid and B lymphoid cell lines and isoforms 2 and 3 are expressed in Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells (malignant Hodgkin lymphoma cells). Function: Acts as an endocytic receptor to direct captured antigens from the extracellular space to a specialized antigen-processing compartment. Causes reduced proliferation of B-lymphocytes. Subcellular Location: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Tissue Specificity: Expressed in spleen, thymus, colon and peripheral blood lymphocytes. Detected in myeloid and B-lymphoid cell lines. Isoform 2 and isoform 3 are expressed in malignant Hodgkin lymphoma cells called Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells. Post-translational modifications: N-glycosylated. Similarity: Contains 10 C-type lectin domains. Contains 1 fibronectin type-II domain. Contains 1 ricin B-type lectin domain.
